Patient Notice!

Please be aware that if you have developed a Cold Sore and have an appointment with either the dentist or hygienist you will be asked to re-book.

When cold sores develop they tend to crack and bleed at the slightest touch and they are highly contagious. With the aerosol generated equipment that we now use there is a chance that the virus from a newly developed sore can become airborne.

For this reason we ask all patients to re-book their appointments when their sore has disappeared.

We hope this does not cause any inconvenience or any offence but we are only thinking of the health and safety of our staff and other patients.

Thank-you for your co-operation in this matter.

Important Patient Information

In correlation with GDC requirements we are no longer able to book your Hygienist appointment unless you have attended a Routine Dental Examination within the previous 12 months. This does not include attendance to appointments for temporary or emergency treatment.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but it is now a legal requirement and will come in to force as of December 1st.
If you have booked your appointments before this date then we will allow them to be kept as they are.

How to Change Dental Practice

The following information can be found on the Denplan Website but we thought it would be helpful if we added some extra information. Our additional information to help you is in brackets after the information it relates to.

Changing Dentist (or Dental Practice)
If you are moving house, going to college or if there is a change in your circumstances, you may need to change your Dentist, (or your Dentist moves practice). Your Denplan contract is between you and your Dentist, (at the dental practice you attend) therefore please follow the simple steps below to ensure a smooth transition:

Step 1 – Arrange a leaving appointment
This will enable your dentist to finish any outstanding treatment that you need. (You may prefer not to do this but a charge may have to be made at the new practice for any outstanding treatment.

Step 2 – Ask your Dentist to complete your Patient leaving form
You will need to present this to your new Dentist. This will give them valuable information about your past dental history. (This is not essential when you are just changing practices as opposed to changing dentist and practice and you may prefer not to ask for one.)

Step 3 – Write to or telephone us, giving 21 days notice
You need to end your Contract with your present dentist, (dental practice). Notice will expire on the last day of the month and your entitlement to Supplementary Insurance and Insurance Services will also cease at that time. (Though the 21 days is required to enable Denplan to cancel you direct debit, this can be speeded up by you cancelling the direct debit yourself. You should however ensure you are signed up with the new practice to ensure continuation of your cover and supplementary insurance. (This will also probably mean that you will miss one month’s direct debit to Denplan but have two taken the following month.)

You should have your registration number/numbers to hand to help them. If you have lost or mislaid these they should be able to access your details from their database. Bear in mind they might have to speak to the main account holder to be able to cancel the direct debit.
What you should do next:

Step 4 – Re-register with a new Denplan Dentist
To help you find a dentist, please use our online find a dentist facility. Please remember to give your new dentist your completed Patient leaving form. (Not essential).

Step 5 – Check if there will be an examination fee for your new Denplan Assessment
Check this before booking your first appointment with your new dentist as this can vary from practice to practice. (If you have been into the practice and signed the relevant paperwork prior to your examination appointment this will be waived.)

Step 6 – Complete a new registration form and Denplan contract at your first appointment with your new dentist
If you re-register within six months of ending your previous registration (e.g. last day of contract 31st October then you have six months from November 1st), you can re-register free of charge. (You may remember that two payments were taken the first time you registered, one was an administration charge. See information in brackets in step 5, we recommend you complete the paperwork prior to your appointment.)

Step 7 – Check your monthly fee
Denplan dentists (and practices) set their own fees and therefore your monthly fee may change. (Your band should stay the same depending upon how much treatment you have had since you were originally assessed. Please be aware it may have to be adjusted.)

Step 8 – Check that your dentist is happy with your treatment needs
Remember that clinical opinions between dentists can and do vary. Your new dentist may have a different opinion of your treatment needs, and there may be a difference in what is excluded from your Contract. (Normally there are no exclusions other than those already stated in the basic Denplan Contract.)

Please note:
Registering with a new dentist will mean that your Supplementary Insurance and Insurance Services will re-commence when you have registered with a new dentist.
