What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive type of cosmetic treatment to finish off your beautiful smile. It’s a great complimentary treatment for any imperfections you have, giving your self confidence a boost.

Why Would You Need Composite Bonding?

The types of issues we treat for our patients include:

  • Gappy smiles
  • Chips on teeth
  • Staining
  • Rough teeth edges (embrasures)

As mentioned, this is a minimally invasive treatment and can be used for multiple improvements to really finish off your smile. This is often the step before going down the veneers or full smile make over route.

What Are The Benefits Of Composite Bonding?

This treatment is aimed at improving the overall looks of your teeth. Its a very quick and pain free procedure which produces immediate results. The material used is safe to be used in the mouth and is found in white fillings. The first step is to discuss your goals and find out exactly what you want to achieve. The dentist will then carefully use the composite material to treat your imperfections, and the results will be immediately visible.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve, it will either be possible using this technique, or veneers may be a better option for you. Our dentists will always discuss with you what options are suitable for you and what that would mean for your smile. If you are interested in finding out what is possible, please do not hesitate to call us and book your dental assessment today.

Other Suitable Options

When it comes to modern dentistry, there is often multiple ways to achieve the goals you may have:

Veneers – as mentioned above, veneers can be seen as the next step on from composite bonding if more work is required. Veneers are very similar to false finger nails, but for your teeth. They are fabricated out of a composite/porcelain material and are then fitted to the fronts of your teeth. Your teeth do need to be prepared prior to having the veneers fitted.

Teeth whitening – if its just the colour of your teeth you are unhappy with, whitening is a common treatment that can be used to change the shade of your teeth. We use a home whitening system which means you can whiten them from the comfort of your home. It also means you can maintain the colour of your teeth easily as well.

Invisalign – If the gaps between your teeth are fairly big, then composite bonding may not be suitable. This is when you would need to look at closing the gaps through a teeth straightening option, such as Invisalign.

Composite bonding is very much a complimentary treatment (as well as standalone) that can be used to finish off your smile after other treatments. To find out what options are available for you, please do not hesitate to call us and book your dental assessment.

How Do We Apply Composite Bonding

In the first instance we assess your teeth to check they are healthy and to see what options are available to you. For all cosmetic treatments dentists will always need to ensure your teeth are healthy prior to commencing your treatment.

This is a fairly straight forward process and can usually be completed in one visit. The dentist will carefully apply the composite material to the area being treated. A UV light is then used so the material hardens. The dentist will then trim and shape the material to give it a nice look (in line with your goals). They will then finish off the treatment with a quick polish so it blends in nicely with your smile.
