We live in a society where a smile is the first thing we notice on somebody and having teeth which are discoloured or stained can make us feel very self-conscious. Teeth whitening or bleaching is most often achieved by placing trays with whitening gel in your mouth over a period of a few weeks to get the desired results. Moulds are taken of the teeth and a special tray designed to fit specifically for your mouth is constructed. The whitening gel is then placed in to the tray, which slips over the teeth and is in contact with the tooth surface. It works by degrading any staining and gradually whitens the teeth over the course of the treatment. The trays are usually worn over a 4-8 hour period every day or overnight.
We offer two home whitening systems, the first being our basic home whitening system and the other being Enlighten. Enlighten has been compared to being the worlds best whitening system as it is the only system which guarantees achieving a B1 shade offering a 98% success rate, which is the whitest shade on our tooth coloured chart. Enlighten Evolution whitening not only guarantees vita shade B1 in all patients, but also provides long lasting whitening results with low sensitivity. How it works is by allowing the gel to pass into the dental enamel which breaks down stains by chemical oxidation. It is important to complete the stages involved in the whitening and this involves wearing the trays over night for two weeks and then returning for the final 40 min treatment of power whitening performed in the dental chair.
Am I Suitable For Whitening?
Like any cosmetic treatment the first step is to assess that your teeth are healthy and you are eligible to have them whitened. If there is any underlying conditions then these will need to be treated prior to commencing any cosmetic treatment. If you have a good oral hygiene habit and see your dentist regularly, then you are more likely to be a suitable candidate.
