What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are a type of restorative dental treatment that are used when teeth need to be repaired or covered.

Why Would I Need Dental Crowns?

The visible part of our teeth is called the crown. As our teeth decays, a crown may be required to repair the tooth if there isn’t enough tooth structure left for a filling to be used.

The primary reason for a crown usually falls under the achieving dental health banner (as above). But crowns can also be used for cosmetic reasons, such as covering a discoloured tooth or even covering a badly shaped tooth.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

As our teeth break down, they will not be as strong as they once were. Crowns are dual purpose as they can restore an already broken tooth or be used to protect a weak tooth. They are made from a strong porcelain material and will enhance the structural integrity of a tooth.
